Cameras
Side cameras help eradicate blind spots, particularly on the opposite side to the driver. The video feed is viewable on dash or rear mirror mounted monitors, and often provides vital evidence in DVR recording footage. The camera output can be horizontally flipped if required. A side camera is typically positioned forward of the front wheel arch and covers the entirety of the vehicle side to the rear.
Internal cameras offer security for the driver, often providing vital footage for DVR recording. This can prove the actions of the driver were not at fault during an incident. Like with other cameras, the internal camera can be accessed by DVR live view if the service is provided, enabling easier real-time communication with the driver.
Rear cameras feed through to a DVR recorder, dashboard screen or clip-on/replacement rear view mirror. The image can be flipped horizontally and typically features a fisheye lens for greater field of view. The image appears on-screen automatically when reverse gear is selected. The camera points downward to cover typical vehicle bumper heights and objects and that are too low to be visible in the standard rearview or are entirely hidden at the rear of van or truck. Parking guides lines are available for some vehicles which move with steering wheel motion to assist the driver in reversing manoeuvres.
